This is a great book to read and base a pottery lesson during Black History Month. When students can relate what they are doing in Art to people of another time and place, it has much more meaning.
If you like Dave The Potter, you will love Roberto Lugo's work. He is the new Emerging Artist of the NCECA Ceramics Educators conference, and a new professor at Marlborough College in Vermont. He grew up in Philadelphia and found pottery to be his calling.... an unusual circumstance for a poor city kid. His work is awesome, timely, and very much about identity. Check it out!
