Rainbow Finger Painting

I read this adorable story with  my Kg.-2nd graders today.  Then, we did dot painting with our fingers.  I like to do this with the younger students because they like to get paint on themselves anyway but I show them that they can have fun, create art, and get messy at the same time :)  Believe it or not, when the kiddos are 'allowed' to stick their fingers in the paint, they are much cleaner and controlled when I tell them not to stick their fingers in the paint...go figure.  Here are some of our paintings:

  1. I just discovered your blog. Very nice! I had to laugh when I saw this post, because it shows how often our art teacher brains work in parallels. My kindergartners painted fingerprint rainbows at the beginning of the month, very similar to yours, but we cut them out and glued them on paper we painted blue. Then we cut clouds out of bumpy braille paper someone gave me. They are so cute, but I haven't posted them, and I never saw your blog before, so I know we didn't copy each other! I'll probably post some pics of them when I post my art show in May, because I'll re-hang some of them then.

  3. Did it today (red yellow blue paint and also taught secondary colors--they put dots down in the two primaries and then smoothed them together). A few kids "washed" their hands in the paint but for the most part, my kinders made rainbows!
